Marat Terterov, founder of the Brussels Energy Club and head of the analytical centre "European Geopolitical Forum," commented on the significance of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' official visit to Uzbekistan on June 30 – July 1 for Dunyo News Agency:
"The Central Asian region remains a focal point for the international community. It is one of the few areas in the world where inter-state cooperation is actively developing, fostering an atmosphere of trust and good-neighbourliness.
Having visited your country many times over the past decade, I can see significant changes. It is noteworthy that the UN Secretary-General began his regional tour in Uzbekistan. This highlights his recognition of the central role your country and its leader play in enhancing regional cooperation.
Uzbekistan holds a significant position on the UN agenda, which is unsurprising. The country has adopted most UN recommendations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and the United Nations is committed to supporting these efforts.
The election of an Uzbek representative to the Human Rights Committee is a historic event, marking the first time a Central Asian country has joined this key UN body.
Additionally, Uzbekistan's election to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the selection of Samarkand as the venue for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2025 further demonstrate the country's active role in the international arena."
This series of achievements underscores Uzbekistan's growing influence and active participation in global affairs.
