Mr Sohail Butt

Mr Sohail Butt brings to the SEAG 35 years of professional experience with some of the largest energy corporations in the Middle East and South Asia, a substantial part of which includes senior management experience. Most recently, Sohail Butt worked as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer at the Pakistan State Oil Company, the largest energy sector organization in Pakistan by annual turnover. Previous to that, Mr Butt spent successful career stints in the energy sector value chain working with Qatar Petroleum, an eminent global level LNG producer. He holds similar experience with various subsidiary entities of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation in the Middle East in senior financial management roles. Mr Butt is currently the CEO of Energy Energetics, a consulting firm providing business development and strategic advisory services to major private and public sector entities in South Asia, predominantly in Pakistan. In particular, he has been advising the ENGRO-VOPAK LNG terminal in the port-city of Karachi, in Pakistan, on multiple business development areas.

Mr Butt is frequently called upon by the highest echelons of government in Pakistan to advise on the development of the country"s natural gas strategies, including the LNG segment of the market. He frequently contributes to the mainstream media as an authority on the energy sector in a regional as well as global context. He frequently presents papers on various aspects of the energy value chain including LNG/LPG/renewable energy potential in the Asian region with a focus on Pakistan. Additionally, he advises on the development of forward-looking strategies relating to the "energy transition" in a complex geopolitical environment, which is now further aggravated by the COVID 19 pandemic. He is a key member of energy think tanks in Pakistan and extensively interacts with government, regulatory bodies and private/public sector organizations in the energy sector of Pakistan and the Middle East region. As a dual Canadian-Pakistan national, Mr Butt is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales since 1979, with tertiary education in the fields of commerce and economics.
